Herdade dos Templarios’s history traces back to the 12th Century when the Knights Templar were bestowed with property in Tomar – where the winery is located – and began agricultural and wine production.

The winery’s vast heritage still manifests itself today. Its wines are the result of a "terroir" particularly favorable to develop the culture of the vine with a unique combination of soil, climate and grape varieties reflecting the true essence of the harmony of nature with the vine. The flowering of the vines in their natural environment with minimal artificial intervention provides the ability for our wines to express their origin "terroir in a bottle."

Located about 100 miles north of Lisbon near the Tagus river, the vineyards are situated in a highly-fertile agricultural region, where the diversity of soil and river resources have proved to be excellent natural conditions favorable to the cultivation of the vine.
